SERVING KAILUA + SURROUNDING OAHU AREA

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW ARE WE DIFFERENT?

At Physio Wellness, we don’t just treat symptoms — we look at the entire body as a connected system. Your movement patterns, nervous system, posture, breathing, daily habits, and emotional load all matter. We spend real time with you, one-on-one, to understand why your pain or dysfunction is happening and guide your body into lasting change. Our approach is hands-on, personalized, and collaborative — not a one-size-fits-all exercise sheet.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE FIRST VISIT?

Your first session is all about understanding your story and how your body moves. We’ll dive into your history, discuss your goals, and do a whole-body evaluation to identify what’s contributing to your symptoms. We’ll begin treatment right away — this may include manual therapy, movement retraining, and strategies you can start using at home. You’ll leave with clarity, a plan, and support — not a list of rigid rules.

DO YOU TREAT EXCLUSIVELY PELVIC FLOOR?

No — pelvic health is one of our specialties, but our work is full-body and whole-person. We treat everything from chronic pain to orthopedic injuries to performance enhancement, and we work with people of all genders and life stages. The pelvic floor is part of your system — and when needed, we integrate it into your care. But it’s never the only focus unless it needs to be.

WHAT HAPPENS IN AN INTERNAL PELVIC EXAM?

An internal exam is always optional, and we only do it with your full consent. If indicated, the exam is performed vaginally and/or rectally with one gloved finger — no speculums, no stirrups, no rushing. We assess how the pelvic floor muscles move, coordinate, relax, and respond to pressure. You are in control the entire time: we explain each step, check in continuously, and stop the moment you want to. Many people find this exam surprisingly gentle, validating, and clarifying.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

This varies based on your goals, history, and how your body responds to treatment. Some people feel meaningful change within a few sessions. Others — especially with chronic or multi-regional patterns — benefit from a longer relationship to unwind compensation and build resilience.

We’ll discuss your goals and expected timeline at your first visit, adjust as we go, and make sure each session is moving you forward.

WHAT IF I CAN'T FIND CHILDCARE?

You’re welcome to bring your baby or child with you to your appointment. Many of our patients do. Our space is calm and flexible — we’ll adjust positioning, pacing, and treatment flow as needed. Your care does not have to be put on hold because of logistics. If movement or manual therapy requires more stillness, we’ll work together to make it doable in real time.

DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?

Physio Wellness is an out-of-network provider. We provide superbills that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement, depending on your plan.

Because Medicare and Medicaid does not offer out-of-network coverage for PT, we are unable to bill Medicare and Medicaid. These patients are welcome on a cash-pay basis.

SHOULD I GET A REFERRAL?

DO I NEED ONE?

You do not need a physician referral to begin treatment in HawaiÊ»i — we are direct access.

However, if you plan to submit for reimbursement, some insurance plans require a referral or letter of medical necessity. We can help you determine if that applies to you and provide guidance on exactly what to request from your doctor.

DO YOU SEE MEN FOR PELVIC FLOOR THERAPY?

Yes. We treat pelvic health for all genders. This includes pain, urinary or bowel dysfunction, post-surgical symptoms, athletic concerns, sexual function concerns, and more. Pelvic health is not gender-exclusive — everyone has a pelvic floor.
